York: Day 1

Today we took a train (an actual train) to York.

We were planning on staying over night here & heading to the Yorkshire countryside tomorrow.

We knew nothing about York & kinda sorta thought of it as just a stop on the way...until we got here.

The entire city of York is surrounded by a 700 year old Roman wall. With battlements & towers.

700 year old.

That is the 1300's people.

(cue hyperventilation)

So... I spent the day walking on a 700 year old Roman wall.

And taking pictures.

Somewhere around 400...

This is our hotel & it's lovely & the people are ever so kind so stay here when you come here.

That gorgeous spiky thing in the background is the Minster Cathedral & it looms over the entire city. It is HUGE & amazing & gorgeous.

And... the wall...

Pretending to shoot my bow thru the arrow slits.

Look! It's a portcullis! I saw no less than 5 of these today!

The gorgeous Minster Cathedral. Check out the gargoyles on this beauty!

The Lion & Lamb Pub.

An amazing ruin of a hospital.

Ruins of a Roman tower.

Ruins of a cathedral (noticing a theme here?)

Clifford's Tower. Ugly history.

See the teeth of the portcullis? They all still work.

Remains of the original Roman towers that lined the walls.

All along the wall was lined with daffodils.

I'm looking forward to another amazing day tomorrow as we head to Herriot country...

Blesssings.
