The other day we had one of those great homeschooling moments. We have been studying the Revolutionary War and I was reading out loud to everyone. The Biscuit was nursing while I was reading, The Little Man was next to me, Big Brother & Big Sister were both drawing pictures about what we were learning & we were all on the couch. It was just one of those perfect moments that makes homeschooling so worthwhile. And my husband was home to capture it all on the camera.

My cow is giving over 2 gallons a day. That builds up fast . So I decided to try my hand at mozzarella cheese. It was surprisingly easy. I used the recipe here http://www.cheesemaking.com/store/pg/21.html. Tonight my husband decided we needed to make mozarella cheese sticks. Only ours came out more like cheese blobs .
Super yummy cheese blobs!
We took some pics of the blob making process but, alas, they did not turn out. It was a simple process though.
We rolled the cheese in a flour/cornmeal mixture, then dipped it into an egg & water mix, then rolled it in bread crumbs mixed with italian seasonings & dropped it into hot oil. Fry it up crispy & MMMMmmm MMMMmmm. Good eatin'.

This morning, The Little Man decided he wanted to rope a goat. His very happiness depended upon it. So, Daddy took him out to rope a goat.
Speaking of goats....this is the dumbest goat in the world
He has no will to live, which is good because if he ever puts on any weight, we are going to butcher him
And for everyones baby fix : The Biscuit
Blessings!
Beloved let us love one another
For love is of God
And everyone who loves is born of God
And knows God
He who does not love does not know God
For God is love

For the last 4 years my cow has given us no real trouble at all. She has been very healthy, an easy keeper. She has more than made up for that over this past week. In the last 10 days she has had edema, mastitis, milk fever & ketosis . She was down for 24 hours & I wasn't sure if she was getting up again. For the edema & the mastitis, my husband was out of town & I was on my own. Thankfully, for the milk fever & the ketosis, he has been home & in charge. If I was still on my own I think I would have lost it .
Praise the Lord, she seems to be on the mend! She is on her feet, eating, drinking & giving good milk. Lord willing she will be fully recovered soon.
I also had quite a scare with the calf. She managed to get herself stuck on the ice on the pond. I found her when I went out to milk. It took me a while to drag her off the ice & into the barn. She's heavy calf! She was chilled thru. My neighbor came over & helped me rub her dry. I set up a heat lamp & we worked on her for a few hours. I was very worried but she has made a full recovery. Praise the Lord some more! The only permanent damage seems to be in her attitude towards me . She won't let me anywhere near her now. Sigh. Wouldn't you think she would be grateful?
Weeks like this make me fantasize about living in a condominium some where with nothing to be responsible for. I could grow tomatoes on my balcony & live a life of ease. I would be bored stiff inside a week .
Life on the farm is never dull.
Unfortunately.
Blessings.
