Which were yours?
I was reading on another blog about a mommy who is worried about her toddler. It seems he is very small and of course she is concerned. Poor momma!
My daughter was tiny. She never ate, all she did was drink milk . I nursed her until she was 2 & then she went to whole cows milk. Sometimes you could tempt her with french fries or fruit snacks, but not often. She was always strong and full of energy but Oh! did I worry. She weighed 20 lbs for 2 years! No joke. She was still in a toddler car seat at 5. She was in kindergarten before she finally outgrew her size 2Ts . At about 4 1/2 she actually started to eat and to grow. She is still not very big. She is almost 9 and weighs 45 lbs!
By contrast, I went to see a friend yesterday, she has a 6 month old boy who is HUGE. He is easily as long as my 2 year old and probably outweighs him! You should have seen the thighs on this little guy! I couldn't keep my hands off him. Poor thing was trying to sleep and I kept squeezing those thighs . Oh, he was soooo cute. Made me want a fat baby!
But the contrast between him and my babies really made me think: Isn't God amazing? The different ways he has put us all together? And he knew those differences before we were ever born. How cool is that?
Psalm 139:13&14
You wove me in my mother's womb.
I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Wonderful are Your works,
And my soul knows it very well.
Blessings.
We're each so different. My babies, well - my sons - were all little sumo babies. Four or five rolls on their thighs and couldn't even see their little wrists for the wrinkle!
ReplyDeleteA friend has little babies, tiny, no bigger than a minute. She worries, until she thinks logically that each of them has been small, and her husband is not a large man (my 12 year old is as big as he is.)
It would be convenient if we were all the same, predictable, and then just boring. I'm thankful our God has made us with infinite creativity and variety!
Have a Wonderful Day!
My oldest son was in the same size for 3 years. But he's been one of my healthiest and except for an issue with staff infection and cracked bone in his hand from baseball he is hardly ever sick.
ReplyDeleteAll my kids have always been a bit on the skinny side. When they came out with the adjustable waist band in pants I was a very happy mother.
On the other hand my sis has a 'plumper baby'. Not too big mind you but not so skinny like mine. Her baby is plaqued with ear infections and allergy trouble. We both have fed our children about the same. So go figure. Just goes to show you that the ' one mold fits all ' just isnt true.
I think the most important thing to remember is to follow our mother's intuition when it comes to our children. Most of the time if you arent worried (except because others keep saying something is wrong ) then odds are your children are ok. But if you are concerned and something just seems not ok, then most of the time its not ok. Ive been lucky to have found a family doctor that believes this and always asked me what I think before gives his 'medical advice'.
Didnt mean to get on a soap box here. LOL. But sometimes an issue really hits home.
My stepdaughter is 13 and I think she is just now at 70 pounds! She was 60 pounds not too long ago, I'd say in the past year and a half is when she has put on a bit more growth and weight. Still, she is soooo tiny compared to her peers, and poor thing notices it. She LOVES gymnastics, and I tell her "petite" girls are the BEST for it, and for cheerleading too! I told her they'd put her on the top of any pyramid! She LOOVED the thought of that!
ReplyDeleteBoth my boys have been "skinny". My eldest was born at 8lbs, 2oz and at 2.5 he's still 30lbs. That wouldn't seem too skinny, but he's tall, so he's constantly taken for a 3yo, even when he was barely 2yo.
ReplyDeleteMy second was born at 4lbs, 4oz and we'll probably never know exactly why. He was early but not THAT early! He gained great for the first 6mo and has tapered off. He is the most active, energetic little guy and consistantly eats more than his older brother, even! We put him on goat's milk, which helped him gain a few ounces, but we put him on (raw, shhhh! don't tell anyone!) cow's milk at 10mo and he's finally gaining!!! I'm so happy. It looks like he might gain a whole pound this month and top 16lbs! :)
My sister-in-law's 2mo is officially bigger than my 10mo. He is a very, very big baby - he was under 8lbs when he was born? and all she does is breastfeed him!
God did make us all different. :) My two youngest brothers are 2yrs apart - the older was so petite the youngest caught up with him and everyone thought they were twins for the longest time. The younger ended up 6'2" and the elder is 5'9" -neither nothing to really sneeze at. :)

All of my boys started out average (8 pounds) but were around 20 pounds at five months, LOL. They weren't really fat (tons of rolls) but were very very "solid." Only one of my sons has continued to stay way off of the growth chart. He's 12 and wears a size 11 (mens) shoe. I think he'll end up being well over 6 foot tall, but my husband is as well. They're all different!

I am glad you wrote this. I am the momma who is worried about her toddler. He is 21-22 pounds and has been for a little over a year now. We cheated and put him in a sitting up car seat at 21 when you are really supposed to wait until they are 22 according to the paperwork on the car seat.
ReplyDeleteYour daughter sounds much like our little Noah. He is VERY active and never is without energy. He rarely eats, but loves his milk! He was breastfed until his first birthday and now he is on whole milk with proteins powders like Carnation Instant Breakfast.
Thanks again for sharing, because it makes me feel like I am not alone, and others have been here as well. I just have a real hard time not beating myself up and blaming myself, even though on the other hand I know I am trying everything!!!
God's Blessings,
Amy Jo
