Life as we know it
I had a whole series of blog posts planned out.
With pictures & everything.
And then...life got ugly.
In the last couple of weeks life has pitched some serious curve balls at me.
Nothing within my immediate little family but friends & extended family have been hard hit.
Life sucks sometimes.
And when it does, I tend to retreat into things that make me happy.
My garden makes me happy.
My animals make me happy.
My kids make me happy (not necessarily in that order).
I was 'nominated' a while back for a Blog Award & I am supposed to write about that but to be honest, right now, I don't want to :(
So instead I am going to give a photo essay of "Life As We Know It"
(you are shocked, I know)
This was my garden 2 weeks ago. The top pic is the 'cool' garden. Most of which was planted in February.
The bottom pic is the 'main' garden. It's the area we pastured our pigs over the winter & a friend plowed it for us about a month ago.
The "plan" was to put the corn, tomatoes, peppers, pumpkins, gourds melons, & a second planting of onions & carrots in this section.
But then "Life" happened.
See all those little bitty bits of green in the dirt?
(don't mind him. He's just hanging around.)
"Life" in this case was dozens & dozens of baby pumpkins. :)
We fed pumpkins to our pigs & the seeds were scattered through out the mud. We when plowed it spread then everywhere & they started busting out all over!
Now, you may or may not know about me, that I have a pumpkin obsession. I love all things pumpkin. Especially growing them. SO when all of these little volunteer pumpkins came up all over what was I to do?
Why, give over the whole area to them of course ;)
Now, we did get some corn & few sunflowers planted before they took over but, the tomatoes, peppers etc. have all been...relocated.
Moved into the 'early garden' as some of those inhabitants moved out. Specifically radishes.
A most important, though often overlooked, aspect of gardening is a shady spot to rest.
We have peas, beans, cukes, mini pumpkins, gourds & Morning Glories growing up our hoop house. The 'plan' (there's that word again) is for it to be a leaf covered Tunnel of Fun for the kids.
Happy pumpkins sprout in the manure pile.
Beets. My first ever.
Baby green beans (starting with this ^ one, I took these pics today. Check out the growth!)
Baby tomatoes!
Bigger beets!
My sugar snap peas are about done in. It's been in the 90's for days
Sun protection is very important ~ always wear your hat!
Corn. It's going to be a might higher than knee high by the 4th of July...
Sunflower sprouts.
My pumpkins have grown. A bit.
It's a large garden & he was lonely. We made for him 'an help meet' :)
Look! Baby pumpkins! Actual baby pumpkins!!!!!!!!
Persnicketys. (commonly known as persimmons)
Apricots.
Plums.
Little birdys in the garden.
Wild flower mix coming up in the border.
The Kids.
Velma.
Pea.
Life as we know it these days.
Blessings.
